The United States Marine Corps is a marine and amphibious combat force in the United States military. Its main responsibility is to use the fleet of the United States Navy to quickly arrive at crisis sites around the world to perform combat missions. The United States Marine Corps is an independent branch of the United States military, with a status parallel to that of the United States Navy, and is under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of the Navy under the United States Department of Defense.
